May 24 - Siena/San Gimignano

The duomo in Siena. They were setting up for a concert that evening in the main piazza in Siena.

The Tuscan wine center in the old fort. On the right, what we affectionately referred to as "the road to nowhere" that took us endlessly back in the woods to the place we were supposed to be staying. One look and we drove out again!

San Gimignano from the distance. Since we wanted to see it anyway, staying there made more sense. On the right, the view from our hotel room window.

A few street scenes around San Gimignano. These were actually taken on Sunday morning before the tour busses arrived. During the day, the streets are crawling with camera-toters.

At one time there were 72 towers in San Gimignano. Today there are only 13 left. In case you wonder how they get large things to the top of these narrow buildings with their narrow stairways ...
