The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
May 28 - Villa Gnocchi

The restaurants in town seem fairly typical of what we have seen in other Italian towns. There is just a lot more traffic on the main road ... and most of the spots are right on the street. This café has people dining within inches of cars, trucks and speeding Vespas. We opted for one with a glassed-in enclosure that provided a little more protection ... and a great view of the harbor.

While we were having lunch, a truck hauling this boat went right by us. We watched them sling it into the water shortly afterward.

The house (houses actually -- there are two) are set into the trees on the side of the hill so it is impossible to get any real shots of the building. Here is one of the corner of the dining terrace. The balcony of our room is covered with fluorescent magenta bougainvillea.

At night, the lights of Santa Margherita provide a view of a different sort.
