The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
May 31 - Bellagio

Pizzeria La Grotto in Bellagio. We opted for a spot on a side street over the more prominant cafés under the umbrellas on the waterfront. The day was getting hotter and we needed something to bring down the body temperature.

The heart and soul of Albergo Oliveda is Laura -- a one-woman workforce. She is not only the owner but desk clerk, maitre 'd, waitress, concierge, confidante and house mother -- all in four languages and always with a smile. When we say it is always about the people, Albergo Olivedo is all about Laura. With the help of one waitress who mainly delivered food, she took care of a full dining room (dinner is part of the room price ... and no discount if you don't show up!) and kept 22 tables happy and entertained.

Laura's dog (name as yet unknown) provides a floor show with dinner. Based on his moves and the way he can play endlessly with a discarded piece of plastic, he thinks he is a kitten! I, for one, am not going to spoil it for him!
