The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
May 6 - Dinner at Il Palazzo

Adriana started us with huge crostini covered with chopped roasted zucchini, eggplant, pine nuts and cheese. I could have stopped there, but that was followed by a dish of organic homemade pasta (we watched her making it earlier) with olive oil and tomatoes.

Then she brought out a platter of pork shops sauteed with mushrooms, accompanied by wild spinach and a lovely homemade sausage. All this was lubricated with several bottles of Hector's excellent Sangiovese, of course. Dessert was fried hibiscus flowers drizzled with local honey! Cap it off with an espresso and life was very fine, indeed.

A good meal is always better with good friends. We really enjoyed spending the evening with Don and Georgeann Sader from Portland.

Hibiscus flowers with honey for dessert!
