The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
May 8 - Panicale and Citta della Pieve

Panicale is a lovely little hill town south of Lake Trasimeno, well off the tourist track. There is nothing to see here ... except Panicale itself (and in my book, that is enough!)

Could it be? Rock stars in Panicale?

Citta della Pieve has captured our hearts. It was the first place we stayed in Italy ... and they say you never forget your first ... hill town? It is an old Etruscan town whose claim to fame, other than some frescos by Il Perugino in the local church, is Vicolo Baccidonne, the narrowest street in Italy. The name means "kiss the women" and the street is narrow enough that people could lean out the windows of the houses on either side and kiss. Rather than break into the homes, Margene and I just improvised on the ground!
