The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
May 14 - The Road to Cortona

The Marvins, the Krumps and the Chesters poke their heads out for a parting shot. Gudiolo has been very good to us. It is difficult to leave.

Margene and Massimo. Even in his retirement, he is healthy, happy ... and very cool! He was tolerant of my stumbling attempts at Italian, and I was really appreciative of his fluency in English!

The Ristorante La Rosa outside the village of Camucia. There is not much action at 2:30 in the afternoon, but it was one of only a few places open. Most businesses in Italy close from around 1-5 for siesta -- great for the locals but right in the middle of prime time for us visitors.

I have a feeling there is a little more latitude in naming night clubs in Italy than we might see in the US! I should check it out ... and buy the t-shirt!

The Villa Biertolini, our home for the next week, and our host, Augusto. The building is much more extensive than this picture shows. Our piece of it is on the ground floor and extends into the main building. The building is split in half, with Augusto and his family on our end and a cousin (whom he doesn't get along with) having the other half. Augusto lives on the top floor and his father lives on the middle level (what we would call the second floor but which is considered the first floor in Europe.) After a tour of the property and a glass of wine, we spent half an hour fixing a short in the kitchen light fixture so we might be able to keep the circuit breakers from popping! Adventure is where you find it ... but I am glad it happened at 6pm and not 10pm!
