The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
May 16 - The Road to Arezzo and Pienza

On the way to Arezzo, we noticed this old castello on the top of a hill by the main road. It was built sometime in the 11th century ... and looks it. It did have a commanding 360-degree view.

Our find of the day, the beautiful hill town of Pienza. Located just a hill away from Montepulciano, our favorite Tuscan hill town, it was really a joy to wander around in. We ran into a few more tourists than we are used to seeing, but even that was OK (and we managed to keep them out of most of our pictures!) I think that Pienza is another one of those towns where you FEEL it as much or more than you see it. We could bore you with several dozen photos of this place, but here are a few that convey some of the texture of the place ... and a few of the views.

On the way back to Cortona, we passed a postcard view of our old friend, Montepulciano. We may yet get back here for a stroll around.
