The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
May 19 - Monte San Savino and Cortona at Night

We managed to make it to Monte San Savino, a center for antiques and architectural salvage before Margene's stomach started acting up. There was not much time for pictures but you can see how the town has built itself onto the old city walls.

We had a delightful dinner at Trattoria La Grotta in Cortona (fortunately her stomach had settled by dinner time ... although bear in mind that dinner time in Italy is well past 8pm!)

Tourist towns take on a much different flavor in the evening ... when all the visitors are gone and the lighting makes it possible to imagine yourself wandering the same streets 600 years ago.
