The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
May 21 - Around Greve on a Saturday Afternoon

From what we can tell, there are basically food markets and clothing markets. Even when the both are happening at once, they are in separate areas, as was the case in Umbertide our first week. The markets generally run from 7am to 1pm, which means we were arriving in Greve just as the market was starting to pack up. Margene did manage to score a few deals, however. Reportedly the quality of the clothing was much higher than what we saw in Umbria.

Margene snapped these shots of the City Hall and its statuary. It makes a guy wonder about her interest in architecture ...

For lunch we ducked into a typical local pizzeria, selected for its proximity to where we found a parking spot! The portions were huge, the prices reasonable and the waiter uncharacteristically angry. Foodservice is a wonderful business ... but it is not a wonderful business for everybody. I am not sure what this guy's problem was -- I doubt that it had anything to do with the restaurant -- but his anger clearly showed and made us just want to stay out of his way. Be alert. If allowed to continue, there is no telling the damage that an attitude like this can cause among the local patrons.
