The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
May 23 - Villa Tiboldi

I can't decide if this is an old place or a new place. I suspect that the main house has been around for awhile. The rest of the hotel and the restaurant is newer construction but blends in well. All in all, this is quite an impressive operation.

The Villa is set on top of a hill in the midst of its vineyards. One of their wines, a Roero Superiore Trinita '01, received a top-rating in this year's Italian wine guide. They market their wines under the label Malvira.

I spent part of the afternoon unwinding from the winding roads with a good book. I don't often take the time to read when I am at home, so it is a favorite passtime when I am on the road. These whimsical chickens were by the front door to the main house. I wish I thought I could get something like this home on the plane.

In the early evening, we were invited to the terrace for a bottle of one of the Villa's excellent white wine (served by Patrizia Damonte -- the owner -- no less!) and some delightful snacks. Sitting under the trees, sipping good wine and gazing at the expansive view has to be a perfect setting for the end of the trip.
