The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
May 24 - Dining del Giorno

Lunch was literally in the streets of Asti. They had a platform with a tent covering that took up 2-3 parking spots in front of the restaurant. Margene stepped up to do some menu translation for a group of students from Hong Kong. They knew English but had no clue about Italian menu terms. I liked the bowls they used for pasta. The angle of the bowl makes for a higher sense of presentation and therefore, of value.

The restaurant at the Villa Tiboldi did an excellent job. The menu itself is small -- half a dozen each of antipasti (appetizers), primi (pastas), secondi (meat/fish) and dolce (desserts). Margene had a delicate little ravioli filled with cheese and the local beef. I opted for risotto with asparagus and ham followed by a roasted rabbit. The wine of choice was the estate's own award-winning Roere Superiore Trinita. I am thinking that I need to add three bottles to the load that we will try to lug home. Here, too, they have a glass wall in the kitchen. This one opens to the outside walkway. Of course, the place was spotless!
