The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
September 23 - Ansouis

Passing through the Amsterdam airport yesterday, I saw some very inventive foodservice outlets. Here are just a couple that got me thinking about how boring and predictable the dining options in US airports have become.

The Cucuron market had all sorts of fresh produce, meats, cheese, and pasta ... and a pizza truck. There was also a stall with rotisserie chicken that smelled heavenly! For lunch we popped into a little bistro in Loumarin for a delighful goat cheese salad and some good local wine.

The dining highlight was La Closerie, the excellent local restaurant owned by Delphine and Olivier. That is Delphine tending to a group of diners from Pittsburgh. She is a delightful woman with an easy smile and a real sense of hospitality, something I have come to appreciate more and more. I suspect we will be dining here at least once a week next year. It is not cheap, but definitely an experience worth the price.
