The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
September 24 - Ansouis

L'Ile Sur la Sorgue -- The Venice of Provence -- is still one of our favorite places in this part of the world. Back in the day, the river was diverted into dozens of canals to power hundreds of water wheels, a few of which have been preserved. You can see one of the larger ones in the park.

Un Patio en Luberon has been our home away from home in Ansouis this time. Michel runs a very pleasant -- and very reasonably-priced -- five-room operation. I suspect we will be here again for at least a night before we officially take over the house next August. The outdoor patio is a great place to relax with a good story and there is a lounge with comfy couches and a TV. The long table is where Michel offers dinner to guests on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Behind the table and up the stairs is the breakfast room. Michel has been a marvelous host and while his English is limited, it is a lot better than our French at this point ... but wait until next year ...!

The rooms are large with a great view ... and for only 70 euros a night!
