The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
September 24 - Ansouis

The heart of the action in Ansouis ... actually about the ONLY action in Ansouis ... is the Bar de Sport and the Tabac. The second shot shows you where our house-to-be-for-September-2009 is located relative to all this. The bakery is just around the corner and the grocery is a block away. La Closier is all of a two-block walk.

At the top of the hill is the chateau. It looks a lot more like a fort to me ... and I suspect the arrow slits and crenalations were not there for decoration.

The whole town has this lovely texture to it -- ancient stone that has stood for centuries. The bell tower is right behind our B&B so at least between 7am and 7pm we always know what time it is. (We also don't need to set an alarm!) The wire cage and exposed bell seem to be a common look in Provence but I don't know if it is fashion or just a way to save money on a steeple restoration.
