The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
September 25 - Around Nice

Nice was originally part of Italy and the oldest part of the city certainly shows it. Old Nice is now largely a tourist area with the narrow streets lined with shops of all sorts. Still, it has a wonderful feel to it and that is what I am trying to convey with all these photos.

The Monoprix market in downtown Nice is a look at the competitive threat that restaurants can face from supermarkets that "get it." I couldn't even begin to document all the prepared foods in the Monoprix or the people lined up at 8pm to buy it. As a consumer, it was lovely ... as a restaurateur, it was unnerving. Even the cafes along the main drag seemed to be impacted.
