The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
October 1 - La Selva and the Compelling Cuisine of Cortona

Fall is apparent in the La Selva vineyards where many of the leaves have started to turn. They have already picked the Merlot and are starting on the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes next. I guess the Sangiovese will be last. When we got back to the house from Cortona, the valley was bathed in the golden glow of the setting sun -- such a wonderful quality of light!

Dining in Cortona, at least for us, means Trattoria La Grotta and their Ricotta and spinach gnocchi with a fresh marinara sauce. Unlike more typical potato gnocchi that are firm and chewy, these little jewels are soft and literally melt in your mouth. Add a bottle of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and a double gelato at La Dolce Vita and you have ample proof that God loves us. Life is very good in Cortona today.
