The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
October 1 - Cortona

Cortona is on the very eastern edge of Tuscany perched on a hill (of course) overlooking the Val di Chiana and Lake Trasimeno. This was the battleground when Hannibal defeated the Roman army, one of the bloodiest battles in history.

The center of the action in Cortona is the Piazza de Republicca, where you can always find handsome men sitting around on the steps of the town hall ... and a few hot women checking them out. We even got to help celebrate a wedding!

Most people tend to think of Cortona from an aerial perspective ... and there is no doubt that it is startling in that way. But up ancient alleys, behind ancient doors, I imagine another Cortona. And there are so many different doors, including one to a private dungeon in one of the old palazzos ... and another with a poster that reminds us that the world is getting smaller all the time.
