October 27 - Lima
The Hotel Antigua Miraflores, our home away from home ... at least at the beginning and end of the trip.
Surrounded by city, it is easy to forget that Lima is located on the coast. The restaurant where we had lunch was only two blocks from the water and while it was a cloudy day, the Pacific is always compelling. We got a kick out of the Santa Claus figure climbing toward the roof of a local shop that specializes in -- surprise! -- Christmas items.
We took a break for gelatto and expresso at a cafe across from the main square in Miraflores. We were amused by the local buses, all of which had a guy hanging out the window or door, hollering at the people on the street, presumably exhorting them to ride with him. It was quite a show.
