The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
October 28 - Cuzco

In a city of churches, La Campania de Jesus has a reputation as the most beautiful church in Cuzco. The altar is a eye-filling vision in gold leaf, a little over the top for my taste ... but then I am not Catholic ... and you have to appreciate the artistry.

It seems like every ten feet we run into someone who is trying to sell us something. It also seems that every shop and restaurant has a "barker" in front trying to entice you inside. It just seems like a continual assault and wears on us.

Most of the streets in Cuzco are narrow and clogged with cars ... but every once in awhile you run into one with just people. It is a delighful break! The city really has a lot of charm. It just gets buried in the tourists and the hustle of same.
