The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
October 29 - Cuzco

A typical shop in Cuzco featuring local crafts. (Actually, this is much more organized than the typical handicrafts shop!) I took the shot on the right as our cab was bouncing up the hill toward the fortress. It is not my finest photographic effort, but it gives you a little idea of how Cuzco spreads out across the valley.

An insight into the Peruvian way of death.

The fortress of Saqsaywaman is an overwhelming presence on the plateau above the city of Cuzco.

On the left is the courtyard of our Hotel, the Picoaga. The hotel was originally the 17th century mansion of a Spanish noble converted into a 72-room hotel and decorated in the colonial style. The daytime desk clerk, Ann Marie, has just been a joy to deal with ... and extremely helpful, particularly when it comes to helping me get online to upload all this, not an easy thing to do outside of Lima.
