The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
October 30 - Sacred Valley

There was all sorts of food available at the Pisac Market. Here is a stall selling boiled corn. The kernels are about as big as the tip of your thumb. The bakery is the oldest in the valley and still heats their ovens with wood. You can see how the smoke has blackened the building. Since the whole operation is outdoors, I am not quite sure how they operate during the rainy season.

Even the most primitive of Peruvian villages has its local bar. This is the watering hole in Patacancha although I did not go in. After spending time in such primitive surroundings, the dining room of our hotel in Ollantaytambo seemed very strange. Margene was not feeling hungry, so I made it a solo excursion. I was also eating light so contented myself with the ceviche. I can see why Peru has a reputation for this dish.
