Astronomical clock, Prague

The big attraction at the Old Town Hall is the world-famous astronomical clock constructed in 1490. It draws a big group of tourists at the top of each hour for its show, the beginning of which is signalled by the skeletal figure of Death pulling a rope and ringing a bell, at which point two windows open and a procession of the twelve apostles make their rounds, bowing to the crowd. The clock also has figures depicting greed, vanity and the fear of pagan invasion, all concerns to the town in medieval times.
