The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
May 29 - Budapest

Catedral Cafe, Budapest

We had lunch at the cavernous Catedral Café. The food was rather basic Hungarian fare but I found the room itself fascinating. The restaurant is located right at one of the several bridges across the Danube.

Cafe Gerbeaud, Budapest

Café Gerbeaud is Budapest's fanciest and most famous café and cake shop. It is the quintessential old world type coffee house, even more so than those in Vienna we are told. It was founded in 1858 and has been at this site since 1870. The decor and furnishings are classic turn of the century. We did find it reminiscent of the inner rooms at the Café Sacher in Vienna . . . and just as busy.
