The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
Chillin' in the 'Hood

We are travelers, not tourists, and as such we are advocates of what some call slow travel. Rather than dashing around in a [tour group] pack, cameras at the ready, taking the same pictures of the same places as everyone else, we prefer to take a more leisurely approach. For us, the goal is not to accumulate the most pictures, but to slow down to the speed of life in whatever part of the world we find ourselves and get a sense of what it might be like to live there.

Traveling in this mode, we do less but usually come away experiencing more. Some days that looks like getting in the car and exploring a new area or just getting lost and seeing what comes up. Other days, like today, it looks like paying attention when the body says to take a break and, well, just taking a break. It's sweet to realize that there's no agenda, that we have plenty of time in one spot to do or not to do ... and that either is OK. Today was one of those days.

Perhaps it's just a symptom of getting older, but when we don't feel like being out and about, why push ourselves to be out and about? Today Margene never left the apartment and I ventured out twice, once to the market for a few odds and ends and once tonight to pick up some prepared lasagna at a boucherie (butcher shop). Don't ask me why this butcher shop would have prepared lasagna. They just do. We noticed it as we strolled around last night. It was quite good!

So that's how it went for us today -- relaxing but not particularly photogenic. So if you're stuck at home and following along on our wanderings for vicarious thrills, I want you to have something to look at. So here are some photos of this lovely town taken on warmer, sunnier days (taken by others who I'm sure are also warm and sunny) in the hope that they'll not only give you something to see, but also give you an idea of what L'Isle sur-la-Sorgue is all about.

Pretty neat, isn't it? Tomorrow is a market day so we'll definitely have some photos of our own to share. Until then, I hope you are enjoying your days of doing -- or not doing -- as much as we are.
