The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh Castle sits on a rock high above the city and has been built into the stone itself. The castle was originally a royal residence but in later years evolved into a military garrison.

The castle complex includes dozens of buildings, many of which are not open to the public. The Great Hall, while not elegant in the sense of what we have seen elsewhere in the world, had a sturdy, no-nonsense feel to it -- probably more in keeping with the Scottish sensibility. I did find the endless expanses of gray stone to be rather depressing, though, particularly in a climate that is generally rather gray itself.
