High Life



Brodie Castle was the home of the head of the Brodie clan, cleverly known as the Brodie of Brodie. The original house was just a tower but additions were added over the years to turn it into a more proper manse. They do not allow photography inside so I can't show you much of the place so we have to make due with the grounds, the daffodils and a couple of head of Highlands cows. It was indeed a high life in its time.

A high life in OUR time is this Jaguar. I love it when they are out of the car you ordered and have to give you the upgrade for the same price! The GPS navigation system has also proved helpful in guiding us through the maze of narrow streets in some of these old towns. It sure is easier than trying to figure it out on a map!

For dinner we went to Cafe 1, a local bistro that seemed well-regarded in the sources I checked. They did a nice job with an imaginative menu and quite reasonable prices ... although I thought the highly tatoo-ed and pierced staff looked a little too punk for the concept and the clientele. You are either congruent or you aren't.

The lessons for me here are that it is important to be distinctive enough that food writers will have something to write about and congruent enough that guests will not have any reason to think, "They are good, but ..."
