The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
Lappin" It Up At The Lime Tree

We are staying on the top floor of the Lime Tree Hotel/Art Gallery/Restaurant at the southern end of town. The room has an unobstructed view of Loch Linnhe and is a great place to kick back. I particularly like that they have free wi-fi throughout the hotel. It certainly makes it easier to take care of business.

While the word "loch" generally means lake here, it is not always applied to a discreet body of fresh water. Long fjord-like fingers of water that extend to the sea can also be called lochs ... like Loch Linnhe. Very confusing.

Speaking of taking care of business, you may be interested to know -- or perhaps not -- that I now beat out the daily diary on my little Asus minibook. It has a 9" screen, hours of battery life and weighs in around two pounds. Needless to say, the keyboard is small which makes touch typing a challenge sometimes, but I love the tiny-ness of it.

The hotel's restaurant re-opened last night with a one-star Michelin chef in the kitchen. The previous chef, a (formerly) recovering alcoholic, fell off the wagon, trashed his room and disappeared without notice. So much for re-hab! But they were still short of staff which caused a delay of roughly an hour to get people seated. For some reason they took our dinner orders while we were waiting and didn't actually seat us until the meal was up.

So while there are details to work out (aren't there always?), the food was well-prepared, nicely presented and all made from local ingredients. I also liked their water presentation -- simple and effectively different.
