The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
The Last Half Mile

We took a cab to Holyroodhouse so we decided to walk the last half of the Royal Mile (uphill, yet!) just to say we had done the whole thing. Right across from the palace is the new Scottish Parliament. To say that the design was controversial (and expensive) would be an understatement. The lower half of the Royal Mile was outside the old city wall and seemed to be a little less commercial and a little more residential. Unlike the top half, the lower portion is even open to regular traffic.

One last Scottish pub before we leave for awhile, this one called Jenny Ha's on the Royal Mile. They are apparently making some concessions to the economy as well (the barmaid says the offer has been very popular). I admit I was taken aback to see a machine in the mens room ("Gents" over here) that dispensed Scotch Whisky flavored condoms!

But what can you say on a (relatively) warm and (very) sunny spring day except "Thank You?" Stretch out on the grass, turn your face to the sun and know that things are getting better. Even Edinburgh Castle looked a little warmer today. In its ageless way, I think it was telling us that it would be still be here, awaiting our return ... and I suspect we will be back.
