The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur in Europe
August 6 - Brugge
For our last day in Europe, we made the run to Brugge, an ancient city near the coast that should be about a 90-minute drive. The traffic was horrendous and it took us nearly 3 hours! At this point, the food scene in Brugge didn't offer anything that caught my attention as different (although I would have given you three pages about it if we had gone there two weeks ago!)
We headed back to the house and decided to drop off for a quick bite in a small local (Italian) restaurant. While the food itself wasn't anything unusual, they really caught my attention when they brought the check. Along with the credit card slip, they had two small ceramic "mugs" of Amaretto! Very impressive! I have always thought that it was good to leave them with a WOW at the end of the meal and this one really caught me by surprise. What could you do with an idea like this?
