The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
January 26 - Republic Day Parade
OK, I'll admit that I am phoning this one in, too. If we really wanted to join 200,000 of our soon-to-be closest friends and actually attend the Republic Day Parade, we would have to be there by 6am to get through security (it has tightened up significantly as a result of the attack in Mumbai), then wait around until the parade itself passed by from 10-noon. Did I mention that the morning arrived with fog dense enough to cause flight cancellations? Visibility was questionable, at least early in the day.
The option was to pull some pictures off the Internet that would be better than anything might get from deep in the crowd, sleep in and watch the parade on TV. What would you have done? Now that my conscience is clear, here is roughly what we both missed:

As you might gather, despite there being floats representing every state in India, the parade has a heavily military theme to it. I will say that their military groups are certainly a lot more colorful than ours! I particularly liked the Border Security Forces on their camels.
