November 5 - Melbourne

We are definitely out of the woods! Reluctantly we left the hills for the wilds of Melbourne to meet some old friends, John & Patty Carlson, for dinner. I met John originally at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs when he visited as a sports physiologist while on sabbatical in the mid-80's. We spent a couple of weeks with John and Patty (his American-born wife) when we were in Australia in 1987. At that time, their son, Leigh was two. Since then, Leigh has grown into a strapping 14-year old and daughter Kitty, age 8, has joined the party.

John had just arrived home from a five-week trip to Germany, Japan and China this morning and I am pleased we were able to spend a little time before we head to New Zealand. As usual, John turned me on to some incredible wines which are described below.
