The daily diary of a wandering restaurateur
May 26 - Todi > Rome > Paris > Burgundy

Since today is primarily a travel day, there will not be a lot of sight-seeing to report. I thought instead I would leave you with some shots of Villa Il Furioso, our home away from home for the past week. When we get to France, I will add some shots that I took the morning we left, including one of Maria, our marvelous Italian housekeeper. Enjoy.

OK, OK, so I lied. We caught the flight to Paris on time but Kenn and Elizabeth, who were traveling on airline standby passes, didn't make it. At this writing, we really don't know where they are -- perhaps still in Rome, maybe in Paris. One way or another, we expect to re-connect with them sometime tomorrow. At their suggestion, we opted not to wait in Paris so we picked up our rental car (a mini van, actually) and blew down to the little town of Fontaine-Francaise, about a 3-hour run from Paris. We were looking for Le Vieux Moulin (the old mill), a B&B created from an old water mill on the river that runs through town.

We arrived about 7:30pm and walked right into the middle of a pre-dinner wine gathering with a table full of folks who are staying at the place, including a couple who just got engaged (he is from London, she lives in Princeton, New Jersey), a couple from Belgium who come here every year, this time with mama and friend in tow, a couple from Paris with their 2½ year-old daughter (she is from Honduras, he is Parisian) and the crew from the B&B -- Patrick, Laurence (his wife of three months!) and Cristelle, one of the staff. It was like walking into a group of old friends . . . who spoke five different languages . . . and more or less the same time!
