The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
April 21 - Villefranche sur Mer

This is a rather short day, activity-wise. We flew all night and took a connecting flight from Paris to Nice. After picking up the car it was about a 30-minute drive along the coast to our overnight home in Villefranche sur Mer.

It was certainly tempting to think about driving at least part of the way into Italy to make tomorrow's trip a little shorter, but I hate to do that after coming off a long sleep-deprived plane flight ... and we have learned that it is helpful to stay close to the airport of the first night to allow a little time to become re-united with any baggage that may have taken a different set of flights. It happens about half the time ... but this time we were lucky and managed to leave the Nice airport with a full complement of bags.

Needless to say, arriving at the hotel in the late afternoon left no time for any big plans. This was fine because we weren't up for much more than a brief walk into the old part of town to find some dinner and then get some serious shut-eye. We head for Italy in the morning to meet up with John and Suzanne Miller from Gig Harbor and Dieter and Hildegard Rinderer, friends of the Millers from Austria. It should be a good group to hang out with for a week.
