The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
May 5 - Another Day, Another Mill

We drove out in the country to take a look at our last Burgundian mill, not expecting a lot after our experience yesterday. What a pleasant surprise to meet the Hendersons and see their lovely mill! Gordon and Sue have a company that runs golf tours in Scotland. Since most of their work is done via the Internet, they have been able to base themselves in France and commute as needed.

All that changed when Gordon got a large three-year contract with a company in the US that will require his almost continual presence in Scotland. Accordingly, they have to sell the mill and move back to the UK, at least for the duration of the contract.

We had planned to spend about 45 minutes looking the property over. Two hours later we finally said our goodbyes and headed back to the autoroute for the three-hour drive to our home for the last week of the trip.

We are spending the end of the trip in a house on the river outside the town of L'isle sur La Sorgue (literally Island on the Sorgue River) in the Luberon area of Provence near the town of Avignon. This is a wonderfully peaceful spot with ducks in the river, fish jumping and the steady flow of water past the house.

We finished our business in Burgundy a day earlier than originally expected and talked the owner here into letting us in a day early. This means that for the next eight days we will not have to pack, unpack and generally dash about. From here on out it will just be day trips ... or maybe going nowhere at all.
