The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
May 1 - Around Ostia Antica

The burg itself is quaint and compact. The castle dominates the view and looks interesting. However, it is only open during certain times of the year ... and even then only twice a day for about an hour each time. Our apartment was up one flight right on the main piazza.

The castle dominates the view when you enter town. To get into the burg you go around the corner and through the gate into the main piazza.

A sense of what it is like around the central piazza. Across from the entrance to the castle at the far end of the piazza is, of course, a church.

There is something very comfortable about this little pocket-sized piece of real estate. Rodrigo de Vivar is presided over by Massimo Cenci, in whom the spirit of hospitality is very much alive and well.
