The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
May 13 - Sunday Brunch and Beyond

To get breakfast, all we had to do was make the climb up the steps, walk across the churchyard and cross the street to Laokosti Taverna. Spiro also has 11 rental villas on the property and has offered us the use of his pool. I doubt that would happen in high season but we are here just ahead of the summer crush ... by design.

Our travelling companions again (they were with us on out trip to Italy two years ago) are neighbors Rick and Joanne Chester and Don and Sharon Krump. I can't imagine a more fun group to spend time with ... and we get to live with them all year besides!

Breakfast was filling enough that we didn't feel the need for lunch, but after walking the street in the hot sun for several hours, a cold beer on a covered terrace with a view (and a breeze) had a definite appeal.

We stopped at the supermarket below the restaurant to stock up on beer, milk, coffee, bread, cheese, wine and other essentials of life and schlepped it all back down the hill to the house. The rest of the afternoon was passed relaxing on the terrace, enjoying the breeze. We anticipated an unobstruced view of the famous Santorini sunset but discovered that we were on the wrong side of the island for it. We will fix that tomorrow. We could only muster enough energy to walk across to Spiro's taverna for dinner. One of these days we will branch out and explore other restaurants ... but it won't be today!
