The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
Edinburgh to Inverness

Time to hit the road so it was back out to the airport to pick up a rental car for the rest of our time here. Normally a manual transmission is fine, but with a right hand drive car, that means shifting with the left hand. There is enough to do just to keep remembering which way I am supposed to be going and adding the gear-shifting confusion was more coordination than I wanted to deal with this time, so I had reserved a car with an automatic transmission.

You know how renting a car can often hinge on the luck of the draw -- sometimes you just get what you asked for and sometimes they don't have it and give you an upgrade. Well this time we won -- I rented a Vauxhall and got a Jaguar! I am still trying to figure out all the controls and switches but it is a very comfortable ride!

About three hours later we pulled into Inverness, got settled in our B&B and headed off to explore the town a bit. After starting out in dense fog in Edinburgh, Inverness greeted us with a perfect spring day and we wanted to take full advantage while we could.

After an early dinner and a grocery run, Margene settled in with a new book and I tried to get caught up on e-mail and the trip reports. At least we have wi-fi here to make it all a little easier. When the only option was dial-up, it was a LOT harder.
