The Daily Diary of a Wandering Restaurateur
La-Charite-sur-Loire and Environs

Heat wave! The temperature edged above freezing today for the first time since we arrived. Good thing, too -- a few degrees colder and today's rain would have been snow!

Yes, cold and raining. It made us a little homesick for winter in Seattle! Normally that would have been an acceptable excuse to stay curled up by the fire ... except that we had no functioning fireplace and I didn't want to put a match to the sofa! We were getting a touch of cabin fever anyway and just needed to get out and do something.

So after Byron delivered an additional heater for the suite, we piled into our trusty VW Golf at the crack of noon, turned up the heat and headed north along the river to see what we could find. (I should point out that the renovation of our unit was just finished in May. We are the first guests to use it in the winter and are acting rather as lab rats to find everything that needs to be tweaked to make the place comfortably liveable in cold weather!)

We went up along the river for a ways, had lunch, then came back and caught a bit more of La Charite in the rain. Not the most optimal viewing conditions, of course, but we leave in in the morning and wanted to at least have an idea of what we never got to see in any depth. We will fill in the missing pieces on the next trip, date as yet unknown.
