HOSPITALITY SCAMS, CHEATS, CROOKS &
THIEVES
Hotelier Les Walkinshaw had a long serving "trustworthy"
secretary. For years she prepared all the accounts and drew all
the cheques for Les to sign. This system worked well, until the
secretary discovered vanishing ink.
She realised she could write cheques for small amounts (the
ones least likely to be checked) and Les would sign them. An
hour later, when the ink had vanished, she rewrote the cheques
in favour of herself. $20,000 later -- and poorer -- Les
discovered the scam.
This is an example of one of the scams that has crept into
the hospitality industry. The book reveals 219 others.
